The circular kick is a basic and powerful Muay Thai kick. Fighters who master this technique can kick with a force equivalent to a baseball bat.
The blow can be used in low, medium or high height. Continuous series of kicks to the opponent’s thigh cause injuries that decrease mobility and can even lead to premature end of the fight. Higher kicks can result in knockouts, while kicks at average height can hinder the opponent’s breathing and stamina.
The power of the kick comes from the explosive rotation of the hip and foot. The arm, which is on the same side as the leg that gives the blow, should swing down or, while the shoulder should be held higher for counterattack protection. When delivering the circular kick, the fighter must think of “crossing” the opponent with the blow. That’ll give you more power. The contact should be made, preferably, with the cinnamon.
